Roscoe E. "Pappy" Hazard

Roscoe E. "Pappy" Hazard

It all started with Roscoe “Pappy” Hazard. A busy man himself, Pappy did a lot for San Diego. His construction company helped build the city and pave many of its roads. From cattle ranching to bookkeeping to construction - Pappy pretty much did it all. So it’s only fitting a one-stop shopping center would bear his name. And stand in the very same place Pappy’s old brickyard once stood.

For Pappy’s son, Bruce Hazard, it was very important that Hazard Center reflect the history of Mission Valley. So it’s not by chance that we’ve incorporated a lot of red brick into the building design. We’re especially proud to have been at the center of Mission Valley and the center of your daily life for all these years.

Looking forward, we’ll have our hands full as we begin the Hazard Center revitalization project – a modern, environmentally responsible urban neighborhood that includes a variety of housing options and new parks space, while promoting the use of existing San Diego public transit.

It’s sure to be a lot of work, but in the end we know we’ll have made Pappy and Bruce proud and ensure that Hazard Center gives you all you need, all in one stop for many years to come.
